Ferdinánd 1608-ban született II. Ferdinánd császár és Bajorországi Mária Anna gyermekeként. 1625-ben Pázmány Péter esztergomi érsek a soproni ferences templomban Magyarország királyává koronázta ), 1627-ben pedig a cseh trónt is elfoglalhatta. Egyik legértékesebb címlet, amit veretett a közel 35 gramm súllyal bíró tízszeres aranydukát volt. Számos információt megtudhatunk, ha jobban megfigyeljük ezt az érmét. Ilyen például a verésének éve, illetve egy NB felirat is, ami a nagybányai verdére utal.
